Applying sunscreen without extra greasiness
Sunscreen is essential, but some formulations can feel heavy on combination skin. Choose sunscreens formulated as gel, fluid, or mattifying lotions and labeled non-comedogenic to minimize shine and pore-clogging.
Tips for sunscreen selection and use:
- Opt for chemical (organic) or well-formulated mineral sunscreens that are lightweight.
- Look for mattifying ingredients like silica or niacinamide in the formula.
- Use a dedicated sunscreen primer if you wear makeup to control shine.
- Apply sunscreen in thin layers: allow the first layer to absorb before reapplying for full coverage.
Application technique:
- Use 1/4 teaspoon for the face, more for extended outdoor exposure.
- Press or pat sunscreen into oily zones rather than rubbing vigorously to avoid stimulating more oil.
- Reapply every two hours when outdoors, using blotting papers between applications if needed.
If a sunscreen feels greasy, try a different texture or switch to a mineral formulation with tint (which can reduce flashback and provide a matte finish). Combining mattifying primers and blotting papers helps maintain a comfortable, non-greasy finish throughout the day.
